A motorcycle master cylinder is a critical component of the motorcycle's braking system. It is responsible for converting the force applied to the brake lever into hydraulic pressure, which is then transmitted to the braking system to actuate the brakes.
The master cylinder is typically located on the handlebars of the motorcycle and is connected to the brake lever. When the rider squeezes the brake lever, it pushes a piston inside the master cylinder. This piston, in turn, pressurizes the hydraulic fluid (brake fluid) in the master cylinder.
The pressurized brake fluid is then sent through a brake line or hose to the caliper or wheel cylinder, depending on the type of braking system the motorcycle has. In a disc brake system, the brake fluid is sent to the caliper, where it actuates the brake pads to clamp onto the brake rotor, creating friction and slowing down the motorcycle. In a drum brake system, the brake fluid is sent to the wheel cylinder, which pushes the brake shoes against the drum to generate braking force.
